Did you know that in 2023, 415,000 dogs and cats were killed in our nation’s shelters simply because they didn’t have safe places to call home? Best Friends has established the "no-kill" benchmark to guide efforts in saving the pets most at risk.
To achieve no-kill status, a shelter must save 90% of the cats and dogs that come through its doors. Typically, no more than 10% of the animals are suffering from irreparable medical or behavioral issues that prevent them from being rehomed, which is how the 90% benchmark was determined.
We love what Best Friends is doing and decided to make a small difference by participating in their pet sponsorship program. Meet Norberta—she’s one of a kind! After having an eye removed due to a medical condition and undergoing knee surgery, she bounced back like nothing ever happened.
